CYS Club Statement Regarding COVID-19 Return to Play

CYS would like to advise its membership in light of the statements issued within the last few days by the Ontario Provincial Government, Ontario Soccer (provincial governing body) and the City of Cambridge that ORGANIZED AMATEUR (YOUTH) SPORT IS STILL UNSANCTIONED AS OF THIS MOMENT, AND AS SUCH, CYS TRAINING AND/OR COMPETITION IS STILL SUSPENDED.

For a summary of statements issued please see below:

The Ontario Provincial Government announced last week that additional workplaces are scheduled to re-open. As part of the announcement, the government stated that recreational, outdoor fields would be permitted to open, beginning on May 19, 2020.

The Provincial Government has now further amended that announcement to include soccer fields as part of facilities that can re-open.

Today, May 20th at 9:26am Ontario Soccer released a memorandum to all members (in error) that the suspension has been lifted on physical conditioning and skill-based training, providing strict guidelines for physical distancing are adhered to. This memorandum was prepared and sent out by Ontario Soccer without any advance notice to clubs within the province.

Today, May 20th at 1:33pm Ontario Soccer issued an updated memorandum to all members that the original memorandum from earlier in the day was sent in error. The suspension of organized sanctioned soccer activities remains in place.

Today, May 20th at 10:30am the City of Cambridge released a statement that details various public spaces have now been opened by the province of Ontario. NOTE: even though soccer fields appear on the list, please be advised that at the current time the City of Cambridge have advised this is limited to family usage ONLY.  Field Permits are not being issued to sports teams or groups at this moment.

CYS is in communication with the City of Cambridge staff and has been advised that all decisions made by the City of Cambridge will be made with guidance from the Region of Waterloo Covid-19 Task Force.

Thank you for your patience.
