Become A Match Official

Cambridge Youth Soccer is always on the lookout for new referees who want to learn! We focus on education and training through monthly sessions and mentorship with experienced referees.

We have 3 match official programs:

  • Game Leader
    • Certified Online
    • Officiates U7/U8 matches (5v5)
  • Small Sided Referee
    • SSG in-person clinic
    • Officiates U9/U10 matches (7v7)
    • Eligible to Assistant referee older matches
  • Youth/Adult Referee
    • District Youth Referee
      • Entry level clinic
      • Officiates U11+ matches (9v9 & 11v11)
      • Under 18yrs of age
    • District Referee
      • Entry Level Clinic
      • Officiates U11+ matches (9v9 & 11v11)
      • 18yrs of age+
    • Regional Referee
      • Successfully completed the Regional Upgrade Program

Become a Referee!

For those looking to become a match official, please contact Shashti Maharaj at referee@cambridgesoccer.ca. To become an official, you must complete a certification course that runs in the late winter months. Once you are an official you have to register annually with Ontario Soccer.

Details about the available programs:

Game Leader

  • Minimum 12 years old as of March 31 before the start of the season
  • Certification completed online (takes 45 mins)
  • ‘Leads’ games for U7/U8 recreational and U8 competitive
    • Monday – Thursday and some Saturdays
    • No whistle or signals necessary, your voice is your primary tool
  • Encouraged attendance at education sessions is an asset
  • NO annual registration cost

Small Sided Referee

  • Minimum 12 years old as of March 31 before the start of the season
  • Certification completed in-class and on-field, 6hrs minimum
  • Officiates U9/U10 recreational and U9/U10 competitive
  • Assistant Referees older age groups
  • Encouraged attendance at education sessions is an asset
  • Annual registration cost: $45

 

District Youth/ Adult Referee

  • Minimum 14 years old as of March 31 before the start of the season
  • Certification completed in-class and on-field, 16hrs minimum
  • Officiates U11+ recreational and competitive
  • Encouraged attendance at education sessions is an asset
  • Annual Registration cost: $45 for ages 14-15, $60 for ages 16-17, and $125 for ages 18+
